Clwb Golff Nefyn Golf Club – Course and Slope Rating
The new World Handicap System (WHS) launched on 2nd November. Under WHS, golfers will be able to transport and use their ‘Handicap Index’ on any course around the world. In line with this change, golf courses have each been graded to reflect their individual levels of difficulty. This is what’s known as a course rating and slope rating.

A Course Rating is the evaluation of the playing difficulty of a course for scratch golfers under normal course and weather conditions. It is expressed as strokes taken to one decimal place, and is based on yardage and other obstacles to the extent that they affect the scoring ability of a scratch golfer.
A Slope Rating evaluates the relative playing difficulty of a course for players who are not scratch golfers. The lowest Slope Rating is 55 and the highest is 155. A golf course of standard playing difficulty has a Slope Rating of 113. Course ratings are determined, by per-mission of the World Handicap Sys-tem, in accordance with the Course Rat-ing System™ for the purpose of provid-ing a uniform basis of which to issue a Handicap Index.
Course Rating, Slope Rating®, and Handicap Index® are marks owned by the World Handicap System and may only be used in connec-tion with the World Handicap System™.

Note. The 27 hole course here at Nefyn are identified by their three colour coded 9 holes i.e. Yellow, Red and Blue. They can be played in three different combinations as an 18. The Championship course refers to playing the Yellow and Red 9’s in that order.
